A Financial Modeling Prep alternative:
built for the business you are building.

FMP's low prices are for individuals: its terms bar showing data in any website or app used by more than one person without a separate display agreement, and every plan carries a 30-day bandwidth cap. OHLC publishes the price of internal use ($149) and customer display ($899), and meters only credits.

Competitor details checked from their public sites.

Display rights you can buy today

OHLC Commercial includes display and redistribution at $899 a month. FMP needs a Data Display and Licensing Agreement for any multi-user app.

No bandwidth cap

OHLC meters daily credits with a hard cap. FMP limits calls per minute and also caps bandwidth over a rolling 30 days.

Point-in-time by default

Stable instrument IDs plus as_of and symbol_at keep backtests honest across ticker changes and reused symbols.

Why teams pick OHLC over FMP

  • You are building for a business. FMP's personal plans exclude business use, and its terms bar showing data in any website or app used by more than one person without a separate agreement. OHLC's Pro plan covers internal use at $149 a month, and Commercial includes display and redistribution at a published $899, bought online.
  • You move a lot of data. OHLC has no bandwidth cap; you spend daily credits and they reset at 00:00 UTC. FMP limits calls per minute and caps bandwidth over a rolling 30 days.
  • Backtests that survive ticker changes. Every listing has a stable instrument_id, and as_of and symbol_at answer what was known, and which company held a ticker, on any past date. Renamed, merged and reused symbols stop silently corrupting your history.
  • Raw and adjusted bars from one endpoint, as exact decimals. /v1/eod returns as-traded prices by default; adjustment=split or adjustment=total_return back-adjusts them. Prices arrive as decimal strings, never floats.
  • Data that is checked before you see it. Prices and corporate actions are compared across licensed sources before they are published, and disagreements are reviewed, not averaged away.
  • You want CSV straight from the API. Price, dividend and fundamentals endpoints return CSV with format=csv.

When FMP is the better pick

Choose FMP for global exchanges, commodities, earnings call transcripts and ready-made DCF models, or the cheapest personal plan with 30+ years of history. OHLC is built for U.S. equities, plus Canada, the UK, France, the Netherlands and Australia on Pro and above, used inside a business.

Switching from FMP to OHLC

Both APIs take YYYY-MM-DD dates and return JSON rows, so most changes are paths, symbols and the auth header.

  • Daily bars. /stable/historical-price-eod/full?symbol=AAPL&from=…&to=… (or the legacy /api/v3/historical-price-full/AAPL) maps to /v1/eod?symbols=XNAS:AAPL&from=…&to=… (daily bars), with up to 100 symbols per request.
  • Adjustment. FMP serves non-split-adjusted and dividend-adjusted series on separate endpoints. On OHLC it is one parameter: the default is as traded, adjustment=split is split-adjusted and adjustment=total_return adjusts for dividends too.
  • Long ranges. Instead of looping over five-year windows, request the whole range and follow meta.next_cursor as cursor until it is null. See pagination.
  • Quotes. /stable/quote and batch-quote map to /v1/quotes?symbols=… (quotes), delayed at least 15 minutes.
  • Intraday. /stable/historical-chart/5min and 1hour map to /v1/intraday with interval=5m or 1h (intraday bars), for about 30 days on Pro and above.
  • Fundamentals. Statements map to /v1/financials/statements and ratios to /v1/financials/metrics.
  • Auth. Replace apikey= or the apikey header with Authorization: Bearer $OHLC_API_KEY. See authentication.

  -H "Authorization: Bearer $OHLC_API_KEY"

A whole-market day, like FMP's eod-bulk, is /v1/eod?date=YYYY-MM-DD with no symbols (500 credits). Create a free key to compare a few series before switching.

Questions, answered.

Can I use FMP data in a commercial app?

Not on its personal plans. FMP's terms require a Data Display and Licensing Agreement to show its data in a website or app used by more than one person. On OHLC, display rights come with the Commercial plan at $899 a month.

Is OHLC cheaper than Financial Modeling Prep?

For business use, OHLC publishes its prices: $149 a month for internal use and $899 for display, while FMP's display licensing is a separate agreement. For one person's personal use, FMP's personal plans cost less.

Does OHLC limit bandwidth?

No. OHLC meters daily credits only, with a hard cap and no overage charges. See limits.

Does OHLC have financial statements like FMP?

Yes. Income statements, balance sheets, cash flows, metrics and as-reported XBRL facts are on every plan, including Free. See financial statements.

Does OHLC cover international stocks like FMP?

Partly. Besides U.S.-listed stocks and ETFs, Pro and above also cover Toronto, TSX Venture, Cboe Canada, London, Euronext Paris and Amsterdam, and the ASX.

Do both have an MCP server?

Yes. FMP's takes your API key in the server URL. OHLC's at https://api.ohlc.io/mcp supports OAuth sign-in or an API key on Developer and above. See MCP.
