Why teams pick OHLC over EODHD

  • You will show prices to customers. Commercial display and redistribution come with OHLC's Commercial plan at $899 a month, bought online. EODHD's published Internal Use plan excludes display outside your company, so a customer-facing product there starts with a sales conversation.
  • Your team needs the data, not just you. OHLC's Pro plan covers internal business use at $149 a month, less than half of EODHD's $399 Internal Use plan.
  • Finance wants a fixed number. OHLC plans are hard caps. When the day's credits run out, requests return 429 until 00:00 UTC and nothing extra is charged.
  • Backtests that survive ticker changes. Every listing has a stable instrument_id, and as_of and symbol_at answer what was known, and which company held a ticker, on any past date. Renamed, merged and reused symbols stop silently corrupting your history.
  • Raw and adjusted bars from one endpoint, as exact decimals. /v1/eod returns as-traded prices by default; adjustment=split or adjustment=total_return back-adjusts them. Prices arrive as decimal strings, never floats.
  • Company data from day one. Financial statements, corporate actions and SEC filings are on every plan, including Free, so you can prototype the whole product before you pay.

When EODHD is the better pick

Choose EODHD if you need exchanges beyond the U.S., Canada, the UK, Paris, Amsterdam and Australia, commodities, a real-time WebSocket, or decades of history on a personal budget: its personal plans list 30+ years of end-of-day data from $19.99 a month and U.S. 1-minute bars from 2004. OHLC covers U.S. equities plus, on Pro and above, Canada, the UK, France, the Netherlands and Australia, with delayed quotes and about 30 days of intraday bars.

Switching from EODHD to OHLC

Most end-of-day calls map one to one. The changes are the symbol format, the auth header and pagination.

  • Symbols. AAPL.US becomes XNAS:AAPL, JNJ.US becomes XNYS:JNJ. A bare AAPL also resolves to its listing, but the qualified form is unambiguous. See symbols.
  • Auth. Replace the api_token query parameter with an Authorization: Bearer $OHLC_API_KEY header. Spreadsheets may pass api_key= in the query instead. See authentication.
  • Daily bars. /api/eod/{ticker} maps to /v1/eod (daily bars), which takes up to 100 symbols per request and the same from/to dates in YYYY-MM-DD.
  • Adjustment. EODHD documents a raw close and an adjusted_close for splits and dividends. OHLC's closest equivalent is adjustment=total_return; use adjustment=split for split-only. Methods can differ, so spot-check a few series after switching.
  • Pagination. OHLC returns at most 500 rows per page. Pass meta.next_cursor back as cursor with the other parameters unchanged until it is null. See pagination.
  • Bulk and CSV. A whole-market day is /v1/eod?date=YYYY-MM-DD (500 credits); Pro adds flat files. fmt=csv becomes format=csv.
