Comparison

A Tiingo alternative:
for teams that need more than prices.

Tiingo is a fine source of cheap end-of-day history. When a team needs more, OHLC adds full U.S. fundamentals and SEC filings with no add-on, analyst ratings, ownership and insider data, point-in-time identity and a hosted MCP server, with internal use that is not capped at two developers.

Competitor details checked from their public sites.

The whole team, one plan

OHLC Pro covers internal business use for your team. Tiingo's Commercial plan covers up to two developers.

Fundamentals included

Statements, metrics and SEC filings for every U.S. company on every OHLC plan. Tiingo covers the Dow 30 and sells the rest as an add-on.

Beyond end of day

Why teams pick OHLC over Tiingo

  • More than two developers need the data. Tiingo's Commercial plan covers internal use by up to two developers. OHLC's Pro plan covers internal business use for your team.
  • You want fundamentals and filings included. OHLC's statements, metrics, dividends, splits, earnings and SEC filings come with every plan. Tiingo covers the Dow 30 and sells wider fundamentals as an add-on.
  • You need more than end-of-day prices. OHLC also serves analyst ratings, estimates, ownership, insider trades, short interest, technical indicators and fund holdings on Pro and above.
  • Backtests that survive ticker changes. Every listing has a stable instrument_id, and as_of and symbol_at answer what was known, and which company held a ticker, on any past date. Renamed, merged and reused symbols stop silently corrupting your history.
  • You pull many symbols at once. /v1/eod takes up to 100 symbols per request, and a whole-market day is one call with date=.
  • You work with AI assistants. OHLC runs an official hosted MCP server, so Claude and other clients query the API directly.

When Tiingo is the better pick

Choose Tiingo if you mainly need long end-of-day history on a small budget (back to 1962 on its $30 Power plan), real-time IEX prices, IEX intraday from 2017, or Chinese A-shares, or low-cost end-of-day redistribution from $250 a month for startups.

Switching from Tiingo to OHLC

Both APIs take YYYY-MM-DD dates and return JSON or CSV, so the main changes are the path, the adjusted fields and auth.

  • Daily bars. /tiingo/daily/aapl/prices?startDate=…&endDate=… maps to /v1/eod?symbols=XNAS:AAPL&from=…&to=… (daily bars), with up to 100 symbols per request.
  • Adjusted fields. Tiingo returns raw and adj* fields in the same row. OHLC returns one series per request: as traded by default, or adjustment=total_return for the equivalent of adjClose. Methods can differ, so spot-check a few series after switching.
  • Dividends and splits. Tiingo's divCash and splitFactor columns become their own endpoints, /v1/dividends and /v1/splits.
  • Intraday and quotes. /iex/{ticker}/prices?resampleFreq=5min maps to /v1/intraday with interval=5m (intraday bars); /iex/{ticker} maps to /v1/quotes (quotes), delayed at least 15 minutes.
  • Auth. Replace token= or Authorization: Token … with Authorization: Bearer $OHLC_API_KEY. See authentication.
  • Pagination. OHLC returns at most 500 rows per page. Pass meta.next_cursor back as cursor until it is null. See pagination.

Questions, answered.

Is OHLC cheaper than Tiingo?

For end-of-day prices alone, no: Tiingo's Power plan is $30 a month. OHLC is the better value once a team needs fundamentals and filings included, research datasets, internal use beyond two developers, or published display rights.

Does OHLC include fundamentals for every U.S. company?

Yes. Statements, metrics, dividends, splits, earnings and SEC filings are on every plan, including Free. See financial statements.

Does OHLC return adjusted close prices?

Yes. /v1/eod returns as-traded prices by default, adjustment=split for split-adjusted and adjustment=total_return for split- and dividend-adjusted. See adjusted prices.

Does OHLC have real-time IEX prices like Tiingo?

No. OHLC quotes are delayed at least 15 minutes, and its WebSocket streams those delayed quotes.

Does OHLC cover mutual funds?

Yes, on Commercial and Scale. Developer and Pro cover U.S. stocks and ETFs.

Can I connect OHLC to Claude?

Yes. OHLC's hosted MCP server at https://api.ohlc.io/mcp works with Claude and other MCP clients on Developer and above. See OHLC for Claude.
