Why teams pick OHLC over Twelve Data

  • You will deliver data to customers. OHLC's Commercial plan includes display and redistribution at $899 a month. Twelve Data's distribution to customers through apps or APIs needs Enterprise at $1,099.
  • You want company data with every plan. Financial statements, dividends, splits, earnings and SEC filings are included on OHLC's Free plan. Twelve Data's fundamentals start on Grow, and statements can cost many credits per call.
  • You run big daily pulls. OHLC's allowance is per day, so a nightly job can spend 250,000 to 1,000,000 credits at once. Per-minute credits suit steady polling better than bursts.
  • Backtests that survive ticker changes. Every listing has a stable instrument_id, and as_of and symbol_at answer what was known, and which company held a ticker, on any past date. Renamed, merged and reused symbols stop silently corrupting your history.
  • One key for the whole picture. Prices, statements, dividends, splits, earnings and SEC filings on every plan; Pro adds analyst ratings, estimates, ownership, insider trades, short interest, news, technical indicators and economic data.

When Twelve Data is the better pick

Choose Twelve Data for real-time U.S. prices (even on its free plan), 250+ global exchanges, 1-minute history from 2022, or external display only, which its Venture plan allows from $149 a month. OHLC is built for U.S. equities, plus Canada, the UK, France, the Netherlands and Australia on Pro and above, with delayed quotes.

Switching from Twelve Data to OHLC

Both APIs return prices as strings and accept CSV, so the main changes are the path, symbols, dates and adjustment.

  • Daily bars. /time_series?symbol=AAPL&interval=1day&start_date=…&end_date=… maps to /v1/eod?symbols=XNAS:AAPL&from=…&to=… (daily bars), with up to 100 symbols per request.
  • Adjustment. Twelve Data defaults to adjust=splits. OHLC defaults to as-traded prices, so add adjustment=split to match; adjust=all corresponds to adjustment=total_return.
  • Order. Both return bars newest first by default; pass order=asc for oldest first.
  • Paging. Instead of outputsize up to 5,000, request the range with limit up to 500 and follow meta.next_cursor as cursor until it is null. See pagination.
  • Symbols. symbol=AAPL&mic_code=XNAS becomes XNAS:AAPL. Bare tickers also resolve. See symbols.
  • Quotes and intraday. /quote maps to /v1/quotes (quotes); interval=5min and 1h map to /v1/intraday with interval=5m or 1h (intraday bars).
  • Auth. Replace apikey= or Authorization: apikey … with Authorization: Bearer $OHLC_API_KEY. format=CSV becomes format=csv.
