Migration guide

Migrating from IEX Cloud:
the closest thing to what you had.

IEX Cloud retired all of its products on August 31, 2024. OHLC works the way IEX Cloud did: credits weighted by endpoint, U.S. stocks with fundamentals alongside prices, and self-serve plans that include display rights. This guide maps your old calls to new ones.

Competitor details checked from their public sites.

Same credit model

Credits weighted by endpoint, reported on every response, with a hard daily cap and no overage charges.

Prices and fundamentals together

Daily bars, quotes, dividends, splits, earnings, statements and SEC filings on every plan.

Display rights, self-serve

Show data to customers on Commercial at a published $899 a month, bought online.

What happened to IEX Cloud

IEX Cloud told customers on May 31, 2024 that it would retire its products, and shut down on August 31, 2024. IEX the exchange still runs and sells its own TOPS and DEEP market data feeds, but there is no longer an IEX Cloud REST API.

Why IEX Cloud users fit OHLC

  • Similar metering. IEX Cloud charged message credits weighted by endpoint. OHLC charges credits per day, also weighted by endpoint (5 per symbol for daily bars and quotes, 50 for fundamentals), and every response reports what it spent.
  • U.S. stocks first. Like IEX Cloud, OHLC focuses on U.S.-listed stocks and ETFs (Pro and above add Canada, the UK, France, the Netherlands and Australia), with fundamentals, dividends, splits, earnings and SEC filings alongside prices.
  • Self-serve plans, including display. Pro covers internal business use at $149 a month; Commercial adds display and redistribution at a published $899, bought online.
  • A hard ceiling. When the day's credits run out, requests return 429 until 00:00 UTC. There are no overage charges.
  • Batching. Endpoints take up to 100 symbols per request, which covers most uses of IEX Cloud's stock/market/batch.
  • Backtests that survive ticker changes. Every listing has a stable instrument_id, and as_of and symbol_at answer what was known, and which company held a ticker, on any past date. Renamed, merged and reused symbols stop silently corrupting your history.

Migration notes

  • Ranges become dates. IEX Cloud's 5y, 1y or ytd ranges become explicit from and to dates in YYYY-MM-DD, not YYYYMMDD.
  • Adjusted and unadjusted prices. IEX Cloud chart rows carried unadjusted u-prefixed fields next to adjusted ones. OHLC returns one series per request: as traded by default, adjustment=split for split-adjusted, or adjustment=total_return to include dividends. Spot-check a few series after switching.
  • Auth. Replace the token= query parameter with Authorization: Bearer $OHLC_API_KEY. Spreadsheets may pass api_key= in the query. See authentication.
  • Symbols. aapl becomes XNAS:AAPL; bare tickers also resolve. See symbols.
  • Pagination. OHLC returns at most 500 rows per page. Pass meta.next_cursor back as cursor until it is null. See pagination.
  • Usage. IEX Cloud's iexcloud-messages-used header becomes credit fields on every response, and /v1/usage shows the day's total.
  • Errors. Errors arrive as RFC 9457 problem documents with a stable type. See errors.

What OHLC does not replace

OHLC quotes are delayed at least 15 minutes, so for real-time IEX prices buy IEX's TOPS feed directly. OHLC also keeps only about 30 days of 5-minute and hourly bars; exchange listings outside the U.S. are limited to Canada, the UK, France, the Netherlands and Australia.

Create a free key, test your request shapes on AAPL, NVDA, JNJ, PEP, MSFT, SPY and QQQ, then pick a plan.

IEX Cloud details on this page come from public reports of its shutdown and from open-source client libraries, as of October 4, 2026; IEX Cloud's own documentation is offline. OHLC details reflect our own pricing on the same date.

Questions, answered.

Is IEX Cloud still available?

No. IEX Cloud shut down on August 31, 2024, and its API at cloud.iexapis.com no longer serves data.

What is the closest IEX Cloud replacement?

For U.S. stock prices, fundamentals, dividends and splits on credit-based metering with self-serve display rights, OHLC maps closely. If you relied on real-time IEX prices, you need a real-time provider or IEX's own feed.

How do OHLC credits compare with IEX Cloud messages?

Both weight calls by endpoint. On OHLC, daily bars and quotes cost 5 credits per symbol and fundamentals 50, with a daily allowance per plan. See limits.

Can I show OHLC data in my app, as I did with IEX Cloud?

Yes, on Commercial ($899/mo) or Scale, which include display and redistribution rights. Free and Developer are personal use; Pro is internal use.

Does OHLC have a batch endpoint like IEX Cloud?

There is no single batch endpoint, but every dataset endpoint takes up to 100 symbols per request, and /v1/eod?date=YYYY-MM-DD returns a whole market day in one call.

A little JSON.
A lot of possibility.
